Del congresso notturno delle lammie : libri tre
Girolamo Tartarotti's three-book treatise arguing against belief in witches' night gatherings, printed at Rovereto in 1749 for the Venetian bookseller Giambatista Pasquali and addressed to learned readers of law, theology and natural philosophy. The plates here are small letterpress ornaments: symmetrical woodcut trophies of books, globes, scrolls, compasses and inkstands wreathed in acanthus and foliage, printed in coarse black line, usable as chapter headpieces, tailpieces, spot devices or stencil-like silhouettes.
