Della pittura friulana : saggio storico
A short history of painting in Friuli written by Girolamo de' Renaldis and printed by the Fratelli Pecile at Udine in 1798, addressed to Italian readers with an interest in regional artists. The pictures here are not plates but the book's patterned paper covers, photographed close up: rows of stamped ladder-like blocks in ochre and dull violet on cream laid paper, with dotted rules, visible fibres and cracks that suit repeat backgrounds, endpapers and worn-texture overlays.
