Delle imprese trattato
A treatise on imprese and heraldic devices by Giulio Cesare Capaccio, printed at Naples in 1592 by Orazio Salviani with Carlino and Pace, for courtiers, scholars and heralds who devised and read personal emblems. The woodcuts pair small oval device plates—clasped hands, trees, animals, mottoes on ribbons—with hundreds of decorated initials built from grotesque satyrs, winged beasts, putti and acanthus scrollwork, useful as display letters, cartouche frames and emblem motifs.
