Giorgio Vasari's biographies of Italian painters, sculptors and architects, reprinted in Bologna in 1648 by the heirs of Evangelista Dozza for readers and collectors of artists' lives. Each life opens with a woodcut bust portrait set in an oval frame inside an architectural aedicula with putto, garlands and a lettered name tablet — reusable cartouche and label surrounds.
