Dell'imprese
Scipione Bargagli's Dell'imprese, printed by Francesco de' Franceschi in Venice in 1594, is an Italian treatise on personal devices and mottoes for courtiers and academy members. Each impresa is an oval engraved frame holding a Latin motto on its rim around a compact scene: a rayed sun with a human face, columns, cloud banks, plants rising from water, rock and shoreline.
