A book of imprese devised by Alcibiade Lucarini for the Accademia degli Intronati and presented to the Medici grand dukes on their 1613 state visit to Siena, printed there by the heirs of Matteo Florimi. Each woodcut sets a single device — a sphere on a plinth, a sun above rocks, butterflies over a field, books and instruments — inside an oval of leaves, flames or ribbon scrolls carrying Latin or German mottoes, giving designers ready-made cartouches, banderoles and compact symbolic vignettes.
