De l'utilité des voyages
Charles César Baudelot de Dairval's De l'utilité des voyages, published in Paris in 1686, argued for travel as a way of collecting antiquities, addressed to scholars, collectors and virtuosi. Ertinger show Greek and Roman coins and medals in ruled circles: profile heads, standing deities with cornucopiae and attributes, animals, and lettered legends curving around the rim.
