Hearn ... to be sold at unrestricted public sale, as directed by the terms of the will, Clarkson Cowl, Herbert Spencer Greims and George E. Schank, executors, on the afternoons and evenings at the places herein stated ..
Auction sale catalogue issued by the American Art Association in New York in 1918 for the paintings and objects collected by department-store owner George A. Hearn, printed for bidders and dealers at the estate sale ordered by his will. The plates are halftone reproductions of nineteenth-century oils, mostly Barbizon and American tonalist landscapes with wooded banks, distant valleys and dim figures, printed so dark that they read as near-black fields with a few pale openings of sky, water or drapery.
