De magia, : de observatione somniorvm, et de divinatione astrologica, libri tres. Adversvs fallaces, et svperstitiosas artes.
A Latin treatise of 1598 by the Jesuit scholar Benito Pereira arguing against magic, dream interpretation and astrological divination, printed at Cologne by Johann Gymnich for theologians and university readers. The images are the book's letterpress furniture rather than subject illustrations: black woodcut initials set in leafy strapwork, and small oval or lozenge tailpiece ornaments of scrolling foliage, all printed with heavy hatching and broken inking that designers can lift as drop caps, dividers and spot ornaments.
