Demonology and devil-lore
Moncure Daniel Conway's comparative study of demons, myth and occult belief, published in New York by Henry Holt in 1879 for general and scholarly readers. Line engravings copy carved and painted sources: three-headed figures wrapped in serpents, winged demons in jars, grotesque masks of fused faces and limbs, beaked dragons ridden by imps — usable as silhouettes, spot motifs and mask forms.
