A monthly American fashion and household magazine issued by W. Jennings Demorest in New York in April 1865 for middle-class women who sewed at home. Small wood engravings show crinoline day dresses, mantles, bonnets and trimmings drawn front and back in dense diagonal hatching, giving designers isolated garment silhouettes, fringe and braid borders, and zigzag flounce patterns.
