Tycho Brahævs in Philolavm, pro tellvris qviete, Ubi de corporum grauium descensu, tum de motu naturali & violento noua traduntur ..., Authore Ioanne Baptista Morino

Morin, Jean Baptiste · 1642 · Villery, Jacobvm · 3 pictures

A Latin treatise of 1642 by the French astronomer and astrologer Jean-Baptiste Morin, printed in Paris by Jacques Villery, arguing from Tycho Brahe against the Earth's motion and setting out theories of falling bodies and natural versus violent motion, addressed to university astronomers and natural philosophers. The illustrations are small woodcut geometry diagrams: nested and eccentric circles, lettered points, radii and chords, a black crescent inside a circle, and semicircular arcs crossed by straight lines, useful as line-and-letter figures, orbit motifs, or spare geometric ornament.
