A French survey of lace and guipure, antique and modern, written by lace manufacturer Auguste Lefébure and published by E. Flammarion in Paris in 1904 for collectors, dealers and needleworkers. Photographic plates show cut lengths of borders, flounces, collars, cuffs and ruffles laid flat on black grounds, so floral scrolls, mesh fields and scalloped picot edges read as pale line on solid dark—usable as ornament silhouettes, repeating border strips and texture fills.
