Der Blaue Reiter
Almanac of essays and plates edited by Wassily Kandinsky and Franz Marc for the Munich circle of the same name, issued by Piper in 1912 and reprinted 1914 for artists, musicians and collectors of new painting. The plates mix early German block-book woodcuts, Bavarian votive panels, folk carvings, children's drawings and non-European carving with monochrome reproductions of Expressionist paintings and drawings, giving designers coarse black-line religious woodcuts, naive devotional figures and smoky tonal abstractions of animals and landscape.
