Der Cicerone in der Kgl. Gemäldegalerie in Berlin
A German gallery guide to the paintings of the Königliche Museen in Berlin, written by Richard Muther and published by Georg Hirth in Munich in 1889 for museum visitors and students of art history. Its 217 halftone reproductions render Dutch, Flemish, German and Italian old master paintings as coarse, dark-grained plates: candlelit interiors, family groups in doorways, cloaked figures at barred windows, and bust portraits against wooded backgrounds, useful as high-contrast texture and silhouette source material.
