De re aedificatoria libri decem
Leon Battista Alberti's ten books on architecture, written in Latin in the 1450s and printed at Strasbourg by Jacob Cammerlander in 1541 for architects, masons and humanist readers. The plates here are woodcut initials and ornament: white-on-black foliate capitals, a historiated letter with a woodcutter among trees, and a strapwork headpiece with columns useful as display letters and rules.
