De re vestiaria, vascularia & nauali
A Latin antiquarian handbook on ancient dress, vessels and ships by the French humanist Lazare de Baïf, printed in Paris in 1553 by the royal printer Charles Estienne for scholars and students of classical antiquity. The woodcuts are small keyed diagrams lettered A through M: galleys and sailing ships with masts, rigging and oar-ports, boar-headed prows, a carved drinking horn with a bearded mask terminal, drawn in plain outline with light hatching on pale letterpress pages.
