Alfred Lichtwark's 1888 study of German early-Renaissance ornament engraving, published in Berlin by Weidmannsche Buchhandlung for art historians and collectors of print ornament. The line reproductions after sixteenth-century engravings show acanthus candelabra panels, ram- and mask-headed capitals, fluted goblets and grotesque faces built from foliage, giving designers crisp outline and hatched motifs that scale down to borders, initials, and rules.
