Johann Gottlieb Georgi's French-language ethnographic survey of the peoples of the Russian empire, published in St Petersburg by C. G. Müller in 1776 for European readers and officials. Engraved full-length figures stand singly against sketchy shrubs and hillocks, dressed in embroidered coats, sashes, bead collars, coin ornaments and tall headdresses, giving usable silhouettes, textile pattern motifs and hair-braid details.
