A descriptive catalogue of the collections of tapestry and embroidery in the South Kensington Museum
A museum collection catalogue of tapestry and embroidery compiled by Alan S. Cole for the South Kensington Museum, printed in London in 1888 for curators, students and textile manufacturers. The illustrations shown are small wood-engraved ornaments in an interlaced early-medieval manner: knotted bands ending in beaked animal heads, spiral-filled triangular headpieces and square initial-style panels, all built from black outline and close hatching, usable as borders, corner blocks and repeating strip motifs.
