A 1749 Venetian catalogue by the printer Giovanni Battista Pasquali describing Carlo Cignani's cartoons and Sebastiano Ricci's paintings in the collection of Joseph Smith, British consul in Venice, with short lives of both painters, addressed to collectors and connoisseurs. The plates are letterpress woodcut headpieces, tailpieces and emblem cartouches: symmetrical acanthus scrollwork framing an armillary sphere with drawing instruments, a fruit basket, and a radiant figure on a motto banner.
