Agostino Maria Taja's room-by-room description of the Vatican Palace and its paintings, printed in Rome by Niccolò and Marco Pagliarini in 1750 for antiquarians, clergy and visitors to the papal collections. The plates here are typographic ornament: woodcut headpieces of scrolling acanthus, flower swags and masks, an eagle on a pedestal, and initial letters set in foliate frames, usable as borders, dividers and drop caps.
