A German edition of Leonardo da Vinci's treatise on painting, issued in Nuremberg in 1786 by the Weigel and Schneider art and book shop, presenting the art as geometry, optics, mechanics and anatomy for painters and drawing students. The plates are small line diagrams printed with the text: rayed suns casting lines onto domes and blocks, shaded boxes, arcs lettered A through R, and sheafs of rays entering a wall opening \u2014 usable as ready-made optical schematics, sun emblems, and hatched geometric solids.
