A 1612 Paris folio by Antoine de Laval, collecting treatises on noble and public professions, divination, painting and ceremonial entries alongside a history of the House of Bourbon, printed by the widow of Abel l'Angelier for court readers. The plates here are square woodcut initials: letters framed in vine scrolls, rosettes, grotesque masks and crouching beasts, usable as drop caps, spot ornaments or border motifs.
