Des wereldts proef-steen ofte De ydelheydt door de waerheyd beschuldight ende overtuyght van valscheydt
A Dutch-language emblem book by the Flemish moralist Antoine de Bourgogne, translated by Petrus Gheshier and printed in Antwerp in 1643, with designs by Abraham van Diepenbeeck engraved by Theodor van Merlen for pious lay readers. The 71 small plates sit in oval and octagonal borders and show single figures drinking, preening or leaning on balustrades among terraces, arcades, gatehouses and overgrown ruins, useful for period costume, shaped cartouche frames and fine-line architectural backgrounds.
