A collected American edition of John Ruskin's prose — the geological studies of Deucalion, the fairy tale The King of the Golden River, the Eagle's Nest lectures on art and science, and the collected letters of Arrows of the Chace — issued by the Aldine Book Publishing Company in Boston in 1890 for general readers. The 42 small text vignettes, engraved from Ruskin's own pen sketches, show broken rock strata, crystal and root forms, alpine slopes with staff-carrying climbers, and waterfalls, with hatching that ranges from loose scribble to dense black mass.
