Deuises heroiques et morales
An emblem book of heroic and moral devices by the Jesuit writer Pierre Le Moyne, printed in Paris by Augustin Courbé in 1649 for court and learned readers. The plates run to inhabited woodcut initials set in laurel, olive and palm sprays with flowers and fruit, plus emblematic device imagery, all in worn relief line that a designer can lift for drop caps, borders and small ornamental motifs.
