A two-volume German survey of baroque and rococo art edited by Georg Biermann and published in Leipzig in 1914 to accompany the Darmstadt centenary exhibition of German art, 1650–1800, aimed at scholars and collectors. Halftone plates reproduce oil portraits, church interiors, sculpture and ornament, with sitters emerging from deep black grounds — useful for high-contrast faces, lace cuffs and rocaille detail.
