A survey of German regional folk dress drawn by Albert Kretschmer and issued in Leipzig by Bach in 1887, with explanatory text, made for costume historians, artists and theatre designers. The chromolithographed plates group villagers in outdoor settings, showing embroidered bodices, aprons, wide-brimmed and horned hats, knee breeches and knitted stockings in flat, saturated color with clear outlines, giving usable references for pattern, silhouette and regional headgear.
