De' veri precetti della pittvra, libri tre
Giovanni Battista Armenini's three-book treatise on the true precepts of painting, printed at Ravenna by Francesco Tebaldini in 1587 for painters and workshop apprentices trained in the late Italian Renaissance. The illustrations here are woodcut initial letters set in square blocks, with roman capitals reserved white against dense foliate scrollwork, gourds, acanthus and vases, usable as drop caps, borders or tile patterns.
