Devises et emblesmes d'amour moralisez
A French emblem book of love mottoes and moralized devices by Albert Flamen, printed in Paris by Estienne Loyson in 1672 for readers of courtly emblem literature. The images sampled here are small square woodcut initials — L, P, D — set in coarse laurel and leaf-sprig frames, cut in heavy black line on rough paper, useful as drop caps, borders, and printers' ornament.
