Devises royales
A French emblem book of royal devices compiled by Adrien d'Amboise and printed in Paris by R. Boutonné in 1622, addressed to a courtly readership reading kingship through mottoes and images. Each woodcut sets a single emblem — ouroboros, monogram, crowns beneath stars, lilies under a radiant face — inside a ruled box with a curling banderole, giving designers compact badge devices and ribbon scrolls for lettering.
