An Italian treatise in dialogue form on painting, sculpture and architecture by Giovanni Gaetano Bottari, revised and enlarged for the 1770 Florence edition and aimed at artists, collectors and academic readers. The plates include an engraved frontispiece of Apollo with bow and lyre beside an inscribed pedestal, plus letterpress ornaments: a woodcut eagle on an orb and a strapwork initial with a grotesque mask, useful for classical figure engraving, printer's devices and decorated capitals.
