Diamonds, pearls and precious stones : where they are found, howcut, and made ready for use in the jeweler's art, their composition and value
A 1913 trade handbook by Marcell Nelson Smith on where diamonds, pearls and coloured stones are found and how they are cut, printed in Boston for the jewellery firm Smith Patterson Co. and aimed at customers and the retail trade. Coarse-screened halftone photographs show miners on shaft ladders, prospectors among boulders, river diggings and polishing shops of lapidary wheels, offering high-contrast grainy figures and dark ground for collage.
