A popular account of gems and diamonds by Louis Dieulafait, translated by Fanchon Sanford and issued in New York by Scribner, Armstrong in 1874 for general readers. The plates are white-line wood engravings of crystal forms reversed out of solid black, with solid edges for visible faces and dashed lines for hidden ones, giving designers ready-made geometric diagrams and high-contrast silhouettes.
