Diario del Gualdi. 1651-1655
A manuscript diary kept in Rome by Giuseppe Gualdi between 1651 and 1655, recording papal politics, European affairs, weather observations and city building works, now held by the Getty Research Institute. The plates are close crops of the Italian cursive hand itself: brown iron-gall ink on cream laid paper, looping ascenders, abbreviation marks, ampersand-like flourishes and stray show-through from the reverse, usable as script textures, ornamental swashes and aged-paper grounds.
