An Italian emblem book of 1562 engraved by Battista Pittoni of Vicenza, with verses by Lodovico Dolce, presenting the personal devices of princes, dukes and men of letters for a courtly Venetian readership. Each plate sets a small motto-bearing scene inside a strapwork cartouche hung with putti, masks, lion heads and fruit swags, useful for frames, borders and grotesque ornament.
