Dictionary of painters and engravers
Michael Bryan's biographical dictionary of painters and engravers, first issued in 1816 and reissued in London by G. Bell in 1903 under George C. Williamson's editorship, for collectors, dealers and students of art history. The 88 halftone plates reproduce paintings from the Italian Renaissance onward, including enthroned Madonnas with saints, nativity groups and monastic scenes, giving designers grainy monochrome reproductions of altarpieces and figure compositions.
