Dictionary of painters and engravers
A multi-volume biographical dictionary of painters and engravers, begun by Michael Bryan and revised by George Charles Williamson, published by G. Bell in London in 1903 for collectors, dealers and art students. The plates are halftone photographic reproductions of European paintings — nativities and altarpiece wings, religious crowd scenes, domestic interiors and genre groups — printed dark and soft, offering figure groupings, drapery silhouettes and heavy tonal masses for collage and texture work.
