A dictionary of typography and its accessory arts. Presented to the subscribers of the "Printers' register," 1870-1871
A trade reference dictionary of printing terms compiled by John Southward and issued in London by Powell in 1871 as a premium for subscribers to the Printers' Register. Wood-engraved cuts show platen and cylinder presses, ruling and folding machines in three-quarter view, with hatched shading, gear wheels, treadles and an occasional shirtsleeved operator — usable as machine silhouettes and technical spot art.
