Dictionnaire des arts de peinture, sculpture et gravure
A five-volume French dictionary of painting, sculpture and engraving terms compiled by Claude-Henri Watelet and Pierre-Charles Levesque, printed in Paris by L. F. Prault in 1792 for artists, connoisseurs and collectors. The pictures here are small letterpress ornaments: symmetrical acanthus sprays, swagged cartouches, flower-hung baskets and ribbon knots, cut as coarse black woodcuts usable as rules, dividers and chapter headpieces.
