Dictionnaire des arts de peinture, sculpture et gravure
A five-volume French dictionary of painting, sculpture and engraving compiled by Claude-Henri Watelet and Pierre-Charles Levesque, printed in Paris by L. F. Prault in 1792 for artists, connoisseurs and academy students. The plates here are small letterpress ornaments cut in wood or metal: monogram cartouches in sunbursts, laurel and olive sprays tied with ribbon, radiant tablets, banners, trophies and a lyre, usable as chapter heads, rules and colophon marks.
