Die Altdeutsche Buchillustration
Wilhelm Worringer's 1912 art-historical survey of early German book illustration, issued in Munich and Leipzig by R. Piper & Co. for scholars and collectors of incunabula. The plates reproduce fifteenth- and sixteenth-century German woodcuts in plain outline: crowned figures and skeletons, winged allegorical women on horseback, groups of burghers before half-timbered and turreted townscapes, devils and angels over hilly ground, plus checkered floors, banners and lettered scrolls usable as line motifs.
