Payne in Leipzig in 1856, reproducing paintings from Munich's Pinakothek and the Leuchtenberg and Schleissheim collections as steel engravings for art-buying households. The 123 plates are tonal reproductive engravings of genre interiors, peasant and tavern scenes, mythological nudes and landscapes, offering dense crosshatched grey scales and grouped figure compositions.
