A German handbook on the making of printed books, written by Leipzig publisher Carl Berendt Lorck in 1868 as practical guidance for authors and publishers. Wood-engraved printers' emblems and devices fill it: a press-room scene in a cartouche framed by foliage and portrait busts, a griffin guarding an open book lettered Fiat Lux, and a library seal within a laurel wreath.
