Die hochromanische Wandmalerei in Regensburg
Hans Karlinger's 1920 Munich study of high Romanesque wall painting in Regensburg, with technical notes by the painter Max Doerner, made for art historians and conservators. Halftone plates record twelfth-century church frescoes: haloed saints and apostles in medallions, enthroned figures, vaulted architectural frames and painted borders, all softened by plaster loss into mottled grey grounds and broken outlines.
