Robert Forrer's 1898 Strasbourg survey of European block-printed textiles from the Middle Ages to the Empire period, made for museum curators, collectors and textile historians. Plates reproduce printed cloth in photographic halftone and flat colour: repeating vine and pomegranate patterns, bird-and-flower grounds, figural religious panels with saints, and dense arabesque fields usable as tiling motifs, borders and worn-surface textures.
