Hanfstaengl in Munich in 1900, reproducing 223 paintings from the Dresden royal collection in photographic art prints, edited by Herbert Hirth for collectors and art students. The plates are soft sepia halftones of Old Master canvases—religious scenes, portraits, family groups—with deep shadow and few backgrounds, useful for tonal figure studies, cut-out heads and hands, and dark textured grounds.
