Die praenestinischen Spiegel, ein Beitrag zur italischen Kunst- und Kulturgeschichte

Matthies, Georg, 1887- · 1912 · Strassburg J.H.E. Heitz · 33 pictures

A German archaeological study of engraved bronze mirrors from Praeneste, written by Georg Matthies and published in Strassburg by Heitz in 1912 for classical archaeologists and historians of Etruscan and Italic art. The plates are outline drawings of round mirrors with tongue-shaped handles, each disc filled with nude and draped mythological figures, some labelled in Latin, and ringed by ivy, laurel, and scrolling vine borders that work as ready-made circular frames and palmette ornaments.
