Die Röntgenstrahlen im Dienste der Chirurgie
A German-language surgical manual by Carl Beck, published in Munich in 1902, showing surgeons and medical students how to use X-rays in diagnosis and operative practice. The 63 plates are early radiographs of limbs, joints and fractures, printed as soft grey halftones in which bone reads pale against smoke-dark tissue; useful for gradient tonal fields, ghosted silhouettes and skeletal forms with blurred edges.
